It is imperitive that you read the details of each rule at least once. Skimming will not get you the information you need.
OOC
1. Your posts need to be worth reading.
This means using proper grammar and correct spelling, interestingly varied sentence structures and keeping the length appropriate. Appropriate length means that longer posts should be reserved for major events, and short posts belong in faster moving roleplay. Another part of making a post worth reading involves how easy it is to react to your post. Posts need more action and speech than mere observation than thought. On a final note, please, don't rape your thesaurus. What did it ever do to you?
2. Don't be a moron.
This rule encompasses all the "duh" rules. For example. Bringing OOC feelings into the IC world is probably not a smart idea. As a matter of fact, it's a stupid idea, and we will delete you for it. For that matter it is not your place to insult anyone on this site -- that's my job. ;) Seriously though, be polite. And if you have a bone to pick with someone (anyone really, even us admins) you need to contact either myself or one of the other administrators with your grievance. In short, if it will cause conflict OOCly, you darn well better refrain.
3. Be active -- and if you can't, tell us.
There's no reason that you shouldn't be able to post at once every couple weeks if you've applied to this site. If, however, a reason does arise, you will post it on the appropriate board, or you'll probably be deleted in the meantime. Of course, we understand that shi--err, surprises arise. If this happens, just get in touch with an admin as soon as possible and explain. Please be aware, however, that any gained ranks will be restored at the discretion of the administrators. No whining, arguing or angsting over this allowed.4. The layout is here for a reason.
So don't mess it up. The only alteration you should ever make to your posts is to bold, italicize or recolour speech or thoughts. This means that if we see an entire post bolded, recolored, resized or put into a postscript, we will delete the post. Why? Because it's a nuisance, and there's no reason for it. The site is already relatively graphic intensive, and it isn't fair to distort the page for people with small resolutions or slow it down for people with slow connections.IC
You aren't a HAD. You aren't a HAF. You aren't the daughter of the Lord Holder. Your parents didn't die defending you. You aren't the Weyrwoman's daughter. You have no scars that reek of a tragic past. You don't have more than one firelizard, and it isn't bronze or gold. You don't have a pet feline, nor do you have a canine or a horse (although if you can give us a convincing essay on the last two we might consider it.) Your eyes are not sparkling like the ocean, your hair does not cascade and your breasts do not perk with your womanly beauty. If you add it in just to draw attention to your character, take it out. Now. No, I'm not kidding you.
On that note -- all albino characters will be accepted, introduced, and then brutally murdered. Again, no, I'm not kidding you.
2. Be true to Pern.
If you have to ask, you should probably just assume you can't do it...but if you really think you have good reason, or if it's a matter of whether or not it's been done in the books before, you are allowed to ask. But to clear up a few common requests: No, your dragon cannot time-it without completely writing out the plot, getting it okayed with all three admins and getting at least 5 other people involved. No, you can't have a white wher/flit/dragon. No, we won't add another impressable pet to our site. No, we won't add any new dragon colors. No, we won't let your dragon have scales or horns. No, you really really absolutely will not EVER get a disabled/albino/blind candidate searched. Still wondering? Go ahead and contact us.
3. Don't write your character for a specific job.
This is borderline between IC and OOC...but if there's one thing that nags us admins most, it's when you give us a heterosexual, short, thin girl around age 19-20 who shows great leadership skills and sees the beauty in everyone. If that's the case, fantastic! She'll make a great nursery attendant. What? Sad? Of course you are. Because you wanted her to ride gold. We aren't stupid. We'll put you where we want you and where we think your character will work best. If that upsets you, you probably aren't the right type of person for this site, given that that is the way our site works. Thanks for visiting though.4. Use the rating system.
Movies and videogames have ratings to show how inappropriate they are. We expect the same here. If your post was a movie, and it would be rated R, do us a favour and say so in the title. If the post is a flight, it would suit you to tell people from the start how far you want to take it. It's easy -- an example: "Rianth's Flight (R)". Taa daa. Seriously though, if your post is extremely violent or sexual, label it as such. And if you're not old enough to legally do that -- don't. Skip those posts and don't involve yourself in them. Note that we are not responsible for things you personally choose to read, but we will be very strict in deleting improperly labeled threads. Also, just to help us admins, please change the title of any finished post so that it includes the word "DONE".
