Q: How do I apply as a candidate?
A: You don't. You can only start with one of three things -- unranked Holder, unranked Weyrfolk or insta-rider. Ranks must be earned ICly and, sometimes, via OOC application forms later. We have a very in-depth guide to this particular activity inside the site, under the Comprehensive Guide to Kivahr.

Q: How many characters may I have/apply with?
A: You can have a total of three characters, but you must keep them on separate accounts. Meaning that yes, you do have to fill out an application form for each character, regardless of whether or not your original character was accepted.

Q: What are your rules for insta-riders?
A: You cannot apply with a goldrider, and bronzeriders are not currently being accepted due to an overload of them. Female brownriders will be accepted only if the application in question is absolutely spectacular. All other insta-riders will be accepted if you have a very well put together application. Note that we are much harder on insta-rider applications of any type than we are on regular, unraked applications.

Q: What if I want to start off with a (journeyman, assistant, or any other non-beginner rank)?
A: Go ahead and apply as normal. Once on the site, check the "Comprehensive Guide". There is a very simple request form you'll fill out (it literally just asks what rank you want and why). Fill this out, post it, and voila.

Q: May I have a firelizard from the start?
A: If it its chromatic, then yes, you may apply with up to two. But we will expect quite a bit from you if you apply with them -- at the very least, well done descriptions of each firelizard's personality and appearance.

Q: What about a Wher?
A: Again, if its chromatic, then yes. However, you obviously cannot have more than one. We'll be a little less strict on this than insta-riders. Of course, also realize that riders cannot have Whers. We follow what was written in "Dragonkin" in regards to our Whers.

Q: What about dogs/cats/runners/etc.?
A: No. Felines are always a no, period, no arguments. Canines and runners will be accepted if you include a well-written, 2 page essay on why your character needs one. Why? Because they're both fairly rare on Pern, because they rarely are actively roleplayed and because there's no reason that we can see for it. Basically, if you can convince us, we'll consider it. But otherwise, no. The only exception is if your character is either a beastherder at the Hold, in which case you'll be allowed to own these once you've proved yourself active.

Q: Do you accept HADs?
A: No. Never. Nor do we accept HAFs or HAWs.

Q: How much technology will this site allow?
A: In a few words, we accept the opening of both Printercraft and Machinecraft halls, the inventions of better paper, pencils and pens, and in a very limited sense, lightbulbs.
